Last year, Alex, @LucianaGatti5 and I went to burned Amazonian forests to discuss the impact of fires on the world's largest rainforest. It was an emotional trip - it is damn hard to discuss the destruction of your research object and, as a consequence, of your own identity. https://t.co/SdWSA92pX7

For the @NYTmag, I followed two Brazilian scientists on the front lines of Amazon deforestation to understand what is happening to the world’s largest rainforest. Even after many years reporting there, I was surprised and disturbed by what I saw: https://t.co/lz9f3cpDtM

It was a great honor to welcome the President of G It was a great honor to welcome the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier @bundespraesident.steinmeier, and Secretary of the Environment @lemke.steffi @umweltministerium to ATTO yesterday. They emphasized Germany's commitment to helping protect the Amazon and recognized the importance of our research.
Thank you for coming and letting us show you around.

Feliz Natal🎄! Merry Christmas to all!✨ It ha Feliz Natal🎄! Merry Christmas to all!✨

It has become a tradition at ATTO to spread Christmas joy to the river communities in our neighborhood. Each year, we are having a fundraiser, collecting donations from the ATTO members and other people at the institutes. This money is used to buy food, school supplies, as well as toys, and candy for our neighbors.
Then last week, everybody at ATTO dressed up and got on the boats to visit the communities. Our Santa in Chief Nagib🎅🏽 and all his helpers distributed the gift baskets🎁 among the communities.
A joyous day for all!🤗

A big thanks to everyone involved again this year! If you want to contribute in the future, feel free to reach out.🥰
Ready for take-off! The German-Brazilian research Ready for take-off! The German-Brazilian research project CAFE-Brazil (Chemistry of the Atmosphere: Field Experiment in Brazil) with the research plane HALO has finally begun, and one of its first flights already took it above ATTO.
An international research team will spend around 60 days collecting data on the chemical processes in the largely pristine atmosphere above the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. Understanding the natural chemical processes should help explain how, for example, air pollution affects the atmosphere. In addition to measurements by aircraft, data is also collected with the help of balloons, drones, and from the ground with the help of ATTO!
In the coming weeks, we will see HALO a few more times above our heads.

This summer, the #CloudRootsAmazonia campaign ☁️🌳 took place at ATTO, led by scientists from @uniwageningen, and made up of a large international team. They were at the site for several weeks, setting up many different instruments, troubleshooting, and eventually making measurements and collecting data.
The team took us along on the journey with their wonderful blog, giving insights into the day-to-day life at ATTO, the scientific questions they hoped to answer and the experiences they had along the way.
We share an excerpt on our website. Have you ever wondered what a scintillometer is, and what makes it so cool, that a PhD student proclaims "I want one!"? Head over to our blog - you can find the link in our bio & in today's story!
