The ATTO Micrometeorology Team is monitoring atmospheric and soil conditions, while the ATTO Aerosol Team is tracking aerosol particle concentrations throughout 2026 to identify possible changes associated with the evolving El Niño conditions in the central Amazon.
This monitoring effort combines ongoing observations from the ATTO Site with climatological reference data to track changes in air temperature, relative humidity, precipitation, soil temperature, soil water content, black carbon and fine particulate matter concentrations. Monthly anomalies are also calculated to identify deviations from expected climatological values and determine whether current conditions are above or below the long-term average.
The results are presented in interactive figures that are regularly updated as new observations become available. This initiative provides a near-real-time overview of environmental conditions at ATTO, supporting the assessment of how the Amazon forest atmosphere and soil respond to anomalous climatic conditions.
